Adopted is my favorite breed ... Taffy

My cat came out of nowhere and became my everything.

Taffy is a female domestic medium hair cat at the Humane Society of North Iowa. She came to the shelter in May 2014 and is looking for a place to call home. I met Taffy earlier this week and she was well mannered and extremely sweet. She is a mix of colors and is medium sized. Unfortunately, Taffy doesn't have a story, so this would be a perfect opportunity for her new family to create a loving and safe place for her to call home. Cats are such great animals. Taffy is beautiful and charming, she would be a great addition to your family!

If you wish to adopt Taffy, please contact the Humane Society of North Iowa! She is waiting for you!

Please call the Mason City Stray Animal Shelter at 641-424-3617 for more information.

Adoption fee covers the following veterinarian services:  Spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, flea and wormer treatment, feline leukemia test in cats, heartworm test for dogs.

Adopted is my favorite breed ... Kayla

“Dogs have a way of finding the people that need them ... filling an emptiness we don’t even know we have!”
— Thorn Jones

Meet Kayla ...

Kayla is a female Blue Heeler, about 5 years of age that arrived in May of 2014 to the Humane Society of North Iowa in Mason City. I met Kayla on Tuesday and I have to say, she is very sweet. A little shy at first but once we got outside and away from the high energy of the kennels, she was happy, as you can tell from her photo! Kayla is a such a sweetheart and loves tummy rubs! Her breed is known for herding. So if you don't have cattle, sheep or other animals that need herding she may be able to help herd the kiddos in the car before school each morning!

Kayla's story courtesy of HSNI.:

I am such a beautiful girl, with a bit of a round physique:) I have great manners and am house trained. Fearful of strangers, I need some time to get to know you. My former owner said that I was not socialized well with people, so it’s really not my fault. In a matter of days here at the shelter, I made fast friends with all the staff. They adore me! I like other dogs and am trying to make some canine friends also. If you are interested in meeting me, please stop at the shelter and ask the staff to get me out. It might take a little while for me to warm up to you, but I am well worth the wait cause I am the sweetest thing you will ever meet! Please call the Humane Society of North Iowa at 641-423-6241 for more information.

Adoption fee covers the following veterinarian services: spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, flea and wormer treatment, feline leukemia test in cats, heartworm test for dogs.

Right Breed for You?

Happiest in wide open spaces, ACDs Blue Heelers) are very high-energy dogs and extremely intelligent, so they need a job - such as herding, obedience or agility - to keep them happy. While wary of strangers, the breed bonds closely to its family, though the owner must establish themselves as the pack leader. Their smooth, short coat requires only occasional baths and brushing.

Adopted is my favorite Breed ... Cowboy

Live like someone left the gate open

Cowboy is a male Yorkie/Chihuahua Mix that is full of energy and spunk! He arrived to the Humane Society of North Iowa in May of 2014 and is about 2 years of age. Cowboy is a small pet and the perfect size for YOU!

Cowboy and I became friends just yesterday and I haven't seen this much life in a dog in a long time. He was super sweet, fun and energetic. Very photogenic with lots of personality. He is in need of a new family that will lounge around and play with him. Please take a moment to visit the HSNI as a prospective family ready to adopt or just as a guest or volunteer.

Cowboy's Story courtesy of HSNI's website:

“I am starting to feel comfortable here with a couple of my new friends.  It does take me a little bit before I completely trust, but once I do we will be friends for forever.  I like the yummy treats and being cuddled with.  If I really like you I might even sneak in a kiss or two when your not looking.  I am going to need a quiet home where I can feel safe and secure.  If you are interested in me, just ask the ladies at the front desk to bring out Cowboy!!”

Please call the Humane Society of North Iowa at 641-424-6241 for more information.

A day in the life ...

Spending time with the Humane Society of North Iowa in Mason City was such a rewarding experience.

Dr. Winchester and I spend about 4 hours at the North Iowa Humane Society in Mason City photographing the pets that are up for adoption. We got to spend one on one time with the animals while trying our best to capture the personality of each animal.

When we arrived, both Ryan and I were really excited about meeting the animals. Sybil, Executive Director, met with us and her staff showed us around and provided us with a list of animals that needed their photos taken. The list was huge but we got it done!

I will admit that when we got the first few dogs, I was a little nervous because the animals were loud, uneasy and nervous as we walked past. However, once we got the animals out and into the room/outside to be photographed they were all very friendly and sweet.

Volunteers are always appreciated and they do host a few events during the year to help find these loving animals the perfect place to call home.
